About me

Jelle Niemantsverdriet

Cybersecurity leader with 15+ years’ experience in both technical and strategic areas, people management, growing teams and a keen interest in simplifying security. Experienced public speaker. MSc in Artificial Intelligence, Chicago Booth MBA.

I am fascinated by the intersection of cybersecurity and other disciplines like human-centered design, safety research, behavioural economics, marketing and data science. Having investigated some of the largest data breaches in the world, I have a pretty unique view of what happens when things go wrong in cybersecurity – both from a deep technical and a boardroom perspective.

I aim to use that insight to build better and more secure teams, tools and businesses and strongly believe that can only be done by positioning the security organisation as a forward-looking, enabling, data-driven, fast-moving team instead of the traditional ‘department of NO’. In other words: resilience instead of compliance! I have led large (technical) consulting teams in both prevention, detection and response and have most recently worked as National Security Officer for Microsoft the Netherlands.

I am an experienced public speaker – recognised for using lively and non-standard presentation content and style – and have regularly commented on cybersecurity issues for both written media and radio/television.

I am CISSP and CISM certified and hold an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and an MBA from the University of Chicago – Booth School of Business.

Originally from the Netherlands, I have lived for 7 years in the United Kingdom and have worked extensively across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and in Asia. I am currently based in New Haven, CT in the USA.
